GSA Motorsport History
GSA stands for George Shepheard Automotive. Under the management of George Shepheard has a track record others can only dream about in the Asia Pacific region.
For over 40 years, the company has been considered one of the most successful preparers of motorsport vehicles in Australia, boasting winning associations with General Motorsport Holden, Volvo, BMC, Ford and Mitsubishi. Currently GSA Motorsport is a fully accredited agent of Mitsubishi Ralliart, trading as Ralliart Queensland. Ralliart is the competition arm of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.
GSA started over 40 years ago when George Shepheard and Colin Bond started a company called Bond Roll Cars situated in New South Wales. After a few years Colin left Bond Roll Bars to George as his driving stepped up to a professional level. George took Bond Roll Bars and turned it into South-East Asia’s largest supplier of roll cages. At the same time George ran the Holden Dealer Team, and went on to win both the Australian and State Rally Championships.
In 1979 George took on a major job for GMH. It was the 1979 Repco Reliability Trial. It turned out to be one of the greatest results in Australian rally history- first second and third outright in a 20,000km rally around Australia. George went on to win again in 1995 for GMH with Ed Ordynski behind the wheel of a two wheel drive V6 Commodore, beating home the four wheel drive opposition which was tipped to win.
In the early 80s, George shifted from the dirt to the Australian Touring Car Championship, in his first year with Bob Morris, George went on to win races outright and in 1982 was contracted by World Formula One Champion Alan Jones to build a car to win Bathurst, however those dreams were squashed when the car was written off in practice. After that, George went on to run Dick Johnson Racing for several years with many outright wins including the Australian Touring Car Championship.
Later in the 80s, George took over as Managing Director of Ralliart South East Asia. Taking their Australian built car to Asia to compete against teams including Ralliart Japan, winning the Macau Grand Prix. In early 1990, George started GSA Wholesale Suspension in Brisbane, which is now one of Australia’s largest wholesalers of suspension parts.
